DESCRIPTION:Join the Columbia River Maritime Museum on July 3\, 2026\, as educator Julia Triezenberg discusses the history of Columbia River canneries\, their impact on coastal communities\, and the legacy they leave behind. The first cannery on the Columbia River was established by brothers William and George Hume and their partner\, Andrew Hapgood\, in 1866. Less than 20 years later\, there were 55 canneries along the Columbia. DESCRIPTION:The semiquincentennial marks the beginning of our nation. The Columbia River Maritime Museum is looking at the mouth of the Columbia’s own beginnings by highlighting several significant vessels and how they have changed over time. \nCelebrate National Maritime Day on a guided tour through the exhibits with a focus on the historic vessels on display. Pre-register for tours online or see if there is space upon arrival. Tours start at 11am and run for 45 minutes.
