Book Launch: The Centennial Edition of The Toledo Incident of 1925 with Author Ted Cox
Join author Ted Cox on April 18 for a presentation of his newly revised centennial edition of The Toledo Incident of 1925: Three Days That Made History in Toledo, Oregon. Book signing to follow, and books will be available for purchase at the event. This event is free and open to the public but registration is requested.
In July 1925, the Pacific Spruce Company brought Japanese laborers to Toledo to work the green chain, a particularly dangerous step in the lumber mill process. Only two days after their arrival, town residents formed a mob and violently expelled them. The Toledo Incident is the definitive book detailing this incident, what led to it, and the lawsuit brought — and won — by the Japanese workers.
The centennial edition documents a federal district court jury verdict in 1926 that affirmed that lawful resident aliens, including immigrants ineligible for U.S. citizenship, possessed enforceable protections and that those rights could be upheld through monetary judgments.
